DeFelsko with new set for surface roughness testing

Measuring surface profiles using Testex Replica Tapes is now even easier and more precise. DeFelsko, which continues the globally popular Testex program, has launched a new certified set for roughness testing of blasted surfaces according to ISO 8503-5.
The tapes from Testex, which are now individually packaged in strips instead of on rolls as before, make handling more convenient for the user. The same applies to the digital micrometer, which is the central component of the set and replaces the previous analog device. The new model provides the necessary connectivity for transferring and processing the measurement data obtained. The new pressing tool, also developed from scratch - marketed in the descriptive language of DeFelsko as the High Accuracy Burnishing Tool - significantly improves the measuring process. The innovative design includes a ball that rests spring-loaded in a plastic cup. This means that the same pressure is always applied to the test film strip when it is pressed on. The positive effect: the measurements consistently deliver absolutely accurate results, regardless of the user's individual contact pressure.
Test film strip generates replication of the surface profile
The name of the test film strip already gives it away: the Testex Replica Tape creates a replication - i.e. an absolutely identical reproduction - of the surface profile. This can then be measured with the micrometer included in the set to determine the surface profile. Users who rely on this common measuring method can now breathe a sigh of relief, as DeFelsko is not simply continuing the proven product range under the familiar brand name following the takeover of Testex, but has also taken the opportunity to develop it further and make it even more user-friendly. For example, the U.S. measurement technology specialist was inspired by customers who wanted an easier-to-use packaging design for the Testex Replica Tapes now offered in strip form. At the same time, DeFelsko made adjustments wherever the developers in Ogdensburg (New York/USA), the company's headquarters, felt that modernization was unavoidable. One of the most important technical innovations implemented in recent months is the digital micrometer. Designed for robustness and durability, the device has a bright, high-contrast color display with large digits that are easy to read even in dark surroundings. The integrated memory offers space for up to 250 measured values including graphical representation on the display. The USB interface allows the user to transfer the measured values to any PC or Mac computer, where they can be processed for reports or archived using the in-house PosiTest program. No separate download software is required. The device behaves like an external USB drive when docked to a PC or Mac computer using the USB cable supplied.
Digital micrometer determines the correct measured value
Once the user has entered the appropriate Testex Replica Tape - there is a choice of Coarse, X-Coarse and X-Coarse Plus - the digital micrometer automatically activates the corresponding conversion factor and subtracts the 50 µm thickness of the carrier material from the values determined. The device outputs these in both µm and mils. Another feature that makes work easier: in "average value mode", it always prompts the user to determine two measured values. This is done in accordance with international standards such as ISO 8503-5, ASTM D4417C and NACE SP287. In addition to the digital micrometer and packets with the three different test film variants, each identified by its own color, the updated Testex set from DeFelsko includes a user manual, USB cable, calibration certificate, AAA battery and an individual case. The new High Accuracy Burnishing Tool is also included. Users who still want to use the classic press-on tool will not miss out, as this is also included in the set.
