DeFelsko is celebrating the European trade show premiere of the new PosiTector GLS gloss measurement module at the European Coatings Show 2023. In combination with the PosiTector basic models, this provides the user with a portable and robust gloss measuring instrument for all surface treatments indoors and outdoors.

The PosiTector platform, which the US measurement technology manufacturer DeFelsko has recently technically upgraded and expanded, is characterized by its stringently implemented modular concept. Thus, a PosiTector basic unit can accommodate a wide variety of measuring probes in order to transform itself, for example, from a coating thickness measuring system into a hardness testing system. The GLS module presented for the first time in Nuremberg is also optimally designed for interaction with the PosiTector series. It can even be plugged in "on the fly" - that is: while the device is switched on. Gloss measurement is primarily used to control the production process and prevent quality problems. Surface texture, ink application, roughness and other properties influence the appearance of a coating and thus the quality of a product. A digital gloss meter such as the PosiTector GLS instrument measures the surface with a calibrated light source and a light sensor positioned at opposite angles to each other. Gloss is automatically calculated from the reflectance determined in the process. Available in three different model variants, the DeFelsko system has a reference standard integrated into the base unit for this purpose, which recalibrates itself each time the instrument is switched on.

Thanks to different measurement modes, the PosiTector GLS gloss measurement system is suitable for almost any application. The spectrum ranges from fast pass/fail inspections (HiLo mode) to continuous measurements with the generation of real-time statistics (statistics scan mode). The measured values obtained can be downloaded to Mac, PC, tablet or smartphone via the built-in USB port or wirelessly via WiFi and Bluetooth, and can be evaluated and further processed using the PosiTector software. Like all devices in the PosiTector platform, the PosiTector GLS system profiles itself through its user-friendly design and numerous useful features. These include the shock-resistant 2.8-inch color touchscreen with recently improved input options, fast measurement speeds with a performance of more than 60 readings per minute, and the weatherproof, dustproof and water-resistant housing. The latter has a certification according to protection class IP65.
