DeFelsko shows new dew point logger at ECS 2025

DeFelsko is celebrating the European trade fair premiere of the new PosiTector DPM L+ dew point logger at the European Coatings Show 2025 (ECS). In contrast to other measuring probes in the PosiTector series, which are usually coupled with a base unit, this innovation works completely independently and is suitable for heavy-duty corrosion protection.
The main area of application for the new PosiTector DPM L+ dew point logger from DeFelsko is in the field of heavy-duty corrosion protection. Attached to steel structures with a magnet, the pot-shaped device measures the environmental parameters relevant to the coating and records them autonomously over a period of up to 600 days. The data can be transferred wirelessly via Bluetooth or WiFi from the measuring instrument presented for the first time at ECS 2025 in Nuremberg to a PC, Mac or tablet computer. There, the user can evaluate and process the data in a variety of ways using the PosiTector software provided by DeFelsko.
Dew point as a decisive factor in corrosion protection
The dew point plays a decisive role in corrosion protection. When restoring the coating on bridge components, ship hulls, gas tanks, oil platforms or other steel objects, the surface must be completely dry so as not to impair the adhesion properties of the paint. The dew point is determined using air temperature, surface temperature and relative humidity. To avoid the formation of condensation on the substrate, the coating must not be applied at temperatures 3 Kelvin below the measured dew point in accordance with DIN EN ISO 12944. The PosiTector DPM L+ dew point logger is able to monitor and document these parameters meticulously during the entire coating application process. DeFelsko has equipped the device with all the finesse for this task: Commercially available AAA batteries ensure that it can remain in operation for up to 600 days. If this is not enough, it can be permanently connected to a power source via a USB interface. The particularly well-sealed housing is not only absolutely shockproof and dustproof, but also withstands the rigors of the weather (IP65 rating). Thanks to the built-in magnet, it can also be attached to any steel object. The US measurement technology specialist DeFelsko has even taken care of theft protection: the Kensington security slot integrated into the body, in conjunction with a corresponding cable lock, offers the possibility of securing the logger against thieves.
Dew point logger for continuous quality assurance in corrosion protection
One of the user-friendly features of the PosiTector DPM L+ is that the device automatically uploads the measured values to the PosiSoft.net cloud storage operated by DeFelsko via Wi-Fi. The user can define intervals of between one minute and eight hours. The logger's internal memory has a capacity of 10,000 data records or 60,000 measured values. Whenever the climatic conditions exceed preset threshold values, the system automatically sends an alarm by e-mail and informs the user. The device, which is designed for unattended recording and remote monitoring of environmental data, thus reliably ensures continuous quality assurance in corrosion protection. In addition to the PosiTector DPM L+, DeFelsko will also be presenting other measuring instruments and probes from the successful PosiTector family at the European Coatings Show in hall 4, booth 563,. Devices from the PosiTest series will also be at the ECS. These include the PosiTest AT calibrator, a set for checking the accuracy of adhesion testers, and the PosiTest PG, which measures the coating thickness on any substrate in a destructive test using the wedge cut method.
