The Sata Challenge, Germany’s friendly competition for automotive painters, has come to a successful close: From May 10 to 13, 2026, up-and-coming talents from eight countries gathered to demonstrate their professional skills.

The Sata Challenge kicked off on May 10, 2026, at Sata in Kornwestheim. On May 12 and 13, the young automotive painting talents competed in the main event in Weiterstadt. Participants from Germany, Japan, Canada, Norway, France, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and Croatia tackled numerous tasks, which were subsequently evaluated by an international panel of experts. Friendly competitions of this kind are an important milestone in the preparation for the WorldSkills Competition, which will take place in Shanghai in September 2026. They allow participants to compare their skills in advance and prepare them for international competition conditions.

International Training Competition for Automotive Painters

National team member Noah Seiler competed for Germany at this year’s Sata Challenge. He will also represent the German automotive painting trade at WorldSkills in China this September. Noah Seiler received technical and personal support from his teammates Kora Riss and Jason Scherer, the current vice world champion in automotive painting. The participants in the Sata Challenge faced challenging tasks under real competition conditions. Criteria evaluated included technique, precision, color accuracy, work organization, and creative execution. In addition to the friendly competition, the focus was particularly on personal and professional exchange between the nations. “International training competitions are an important part of preparing for the World Championship,” explains Mariusz Dechnig, coach of the German national team and initiator of the Sata Challenge. “It is precisely this exchange between countries that makes this event so valuable.”

Eight Nations at the Sata Challenge

The eight nations were locked in a neck-and-neck race, keeping the suspense alive right up until the awards ceremony. Four participants ultimately had reason to celebrate. First place was shared by Noah Seiler from Germany and Davide Manieri from Switzerland, who tied on points. Second place went to Oisin McKerr from Great Britain, followed by Ewen Gouedard from France. The German friendly competition is traditionally organized by Sata. Glasurit provides the paint materials. Sponsors of the National Vehicle Painters Team are Automechanika Frankfurt, Carbon, DAT, Dräger, Fix Auto, Miracle, NORA Zentrum Wolfsburg, and SchöffelPro. The Sata Challenge was once again held at the Vocational Training and Technology Center (BTZ) of the Frankfurt-Rhein-Main Chamber of Crafts in Weiterstadt, where national coach Mariusz Dechnig heads the department for painters and body painters and where the WorldSkills Germany National Training Center for Car Painting is also located.
