Ligna 2023: Sustainability in the woodworking and wood processing industry

The Ligna again as a presence trade fair: After a 4-year break due to pandemonium, the world's leading trade fair for the wood industry will take place again from May 15 to 19, 2023. Megatrends at the trade fair this year are the topics of sustainability and digitalization.
1300 companies from 47 countries will showcase solutions for the wood and furniture industry at Ligna 2023. As a natural and renewable raw material, wood is part of the solution on the way to greater decarbonization and is therefore more in demand than ever. The flooring sector as well as the furniture industry are therefore also focusing on wood as the number one raw material. "The topic of sustainability is also becoming increasingly important in our industry. On the one hand, it is playing an increasing role from the customer's point of view when buying furniture. On the other hand, the EU Commission is currently working on several legislative projects aimed at converting to a circular economy," explained Jan Kurth, Managing Director of the German Furniture Industry Associations VDM and VHK.
In essence, everything revolves around the "transformation of the wood industry" - and thus around the change as well as the further development of processes and techniques for woodworking and processing, the use of innovative materials on the way to more sustainability, the digitalization of processes as well as the automation of production. With an exhibition area of more than 114,000 square meters, Ligna occupies ten halls (11 to 17 and 25 to 27), two pavilions (P33 and P35) and the outdoor area around the Expo wood roof. Visitors can expect a diverse supporting program - consisting of a conference program, live presentations, special shows and awards ceremonies. Current market developments and trend topics will be presented by around 100 speakers at the "Ligna.Stage" in Hall 12. All presentations will be streamed live and will subsequently be available on demand on the Ligna website. The topic of skills shortages and recruiting will also be addressed in Hall 12 in the "Ligna.Recruiting" area.
