PPG Coraflon Platinum powder coating: 20 times higher color retention
Tests of the PPG Coraflon Platinum powder coating have shown outstanding color and gloss retention. According to tests carried out by an independent laboratory, PPG powder coatings for architectural applications and metal components are 20 times more color-fast than competitor products.
Tests conducted by independent laboratory Atlas Material Testing Solutions in accordance with Fenestration and Glazing Industrial Alliance and American Architectural Manufacturers Association (FGIA/AAMA) 2605 standards showed that PPG Coraflon Platinum exhibited minimal color loss of 6% over a five-year period. The data showed that PPG Coraflon Platinum was 20 times more color stable than similarly colored competitive products over the same period. During the first five years of the comparison, a leading competitor's Slate Grey color lost significant color. When gloss retention was examined over the same five-year period, both the competitors' Slate Gray and Bone White shades lost 80% or more of their gloss. In contrast, the PPG Coraflon Platinum powder coating exhibited minimal color and gloss changes. According to Atlas Material Testing Solutions, the PPG Coraflon Platinum powder coating retains its exceptional stability and performance well beyond the ten-year period. The coating has undergone years of third-party testing to industry standards, including passing 4,000 hours of cyclic corrosion testing, which equates to 5-7 years of real-world corrosion exposure. PPG Coraflon Platinum also offers a number of additional performance benefits, such as an extended gloss range of five to 85 compared to FEVE (fluoroethylene vinyl ether) powder coatings with a range of 25 to 70.
PPG customers value color and durability of powder coatings
"Our customers demand high levels of performance and sustainability, and as a partner, we always strive to meet their needs," said Marizeth Carvalho, PPG Global Powder Lead, Industrial Coatings. "We know our customers have long valued the color and durability of our PPG Coraflon Platinum coatings, and this new data underscores our ability to outperform competitors in the marketplace." PPG Coraflon Platinum powder coatings offer a wide range of colors, effects and gloss levels, including popular anodized metal finishes. For architects and designers, the PPG Coraflon Platinum paint collection offers Embrace, Engage and Escape themes - comprehensive color options that reflect key trends in design. The collection also offers mineral shades and textures that mimic cement, stone, terracotta and other natural surfaces. PPG Coraflon Platinum powder coatings are available worldwide for metal building components and architectural applications that require the highest levels of corrosion and weathering resistance. PPG Coraflon Platinum coatings are specially formulated without TGIC (triglycidyl isocyanurate), PFOA (perfluorooctanoic acid), fluorosurfactants, VOCs (volatile organic compounds), HAPs (hazardous air pollutants), Living Building Challenge (LBC) Red List substances, SVHCs (substances of very high concern) and are REACH compliant.
