TU Ilmenau: Doctoral Seminar on Electrochemistry and Electroplating 2026
Ph.D. students from the Department of Electrochemistry and Electroplating at the Technical University of Ilmenau gathered in Stuttgart at Bosch Manufacturing Solutions on April 9 and 10, 2026, for the 16th Ph.D. Student Seminar.
The 16th doctoral seminar focused on academic exchange and networking among internal and external doctoral students, with the goal of creating synergies and gaining new perspectives for research and collaboration. The seminar offered a varied program featuring scientific presentations by Dr. Dmitry Galyamin, a renowned researcher in the field of electrochemistry, and Prof. Lothar Spieß, a materials scientist and former professor at the Technical University of Ilmenau, as well as exciting updates on the doctoral research of selected participants.
Academic Exchange at the Doctoral Seminar
Dr. Galyamin discussed important aspects that are often overlooked in publications, such as the influence of the counter electrode, the ohmic drop at the reference electrode, and common errors in measuring double-layer capacitance. Prof. Spieß provided an overview of key spectroscopic analysis methods that many doctoral students will encounter during their dissertation work. Host Lea Breu offered interesting insights into the various departments at Bosch Manufacturing Solutions. A particular highlight was the tour of the in-house electroplating facility, which specializes in implementing sophisticated custom solutions. The event was rounded out by group dinners on both days of the seminar, which provided opportunities for personal conversations, technical discussions, and further networking.
