The abrasives manufacturer Saint-Gobain Abrasives celebrated in Gerolzhofen in Lower Franconia: 60 years ago, the foundation was laid there for one of the best production sites for bonded precision abrasives.

The early days of the Saint-Gobain Abrasives site in Lower Franconia are closely associated in particular with the name Heinz Hahn. As plant manager of the original grinding wheel production in Ebern, not far away, the trained ceramist was the first plant manager at the new site in Gerolzhofen. Together with his team, he set up modern production lines and a well-functioning administration for the company, which at that time still operated under the name EFESIS - the "First Franconian Grinding Wheel Industry Schweinfurt". "In the run-up to this anniversary, we had the opportunity to delve deep into the history of our site once again. Among others, we had the pleasure of welcoming a former colleague who was actively involved in setting up the plant and who could still remember the early days in Gerolzhofen well," reported Plant Manager Erik Kamm in his welcoming speech. "At the time it was established, the plant was the first industrial enterprise in Gerolzhofen and has been a major employer ever since," said Mayor Thorsten Wozniak in his welcoming address. "Families from all over the region have been closely associated with Saint-Gobain Abrasives for 60 years, but also with its predecessor 'EFESIS'. Saint-Gobain is thus not only a part of our history, but also firmly rooted in the biographies of thousands of people throughout the region."

Today, more than 100 employees work at Saint-Gobain Abrasives in Gerolzhofen. They manufacture individual precision grinding solutions of the highest quality, which are appreciated and in demand by companies from the rolling bearing industry, vehicle and machine construction, tool machining and many other processing industries - and this worldwide, because quite a few of the products manufactured in Gerolzhofen find their way to distant destinations, such as Australia. Erik Kamm reminded the audience during a short talk at the event that the investments in the plant not only benefit manufacturing quality, but also make a decisive contribution to improving the plant's eco-balance. "The topics of ecology, resource conservation, waste avoidance and climate change have been with us in various ways since at least the 1970s. For a long time, numerous efforts have been made in Gerolzhofen to minimize the site's ecological footprint more and more. A development that we will continue to push in the future."
