AkzoNobel is investing $60 million in three North American powder coating facilities. With new production lines and technologies, the company aims to expand its capacity and strengthen the regional supply chain.

As part of a $60 million investment, AkzoNobel has modernized its powder coatings facilities in Reading, Pennsylvania; Warsaw, Indiana; and Monterrey, Mexico. The investments in production, infrastructure, and technology are intended to strengthen advanced manufacturing, expand regional production capacity, and secure the supply chain for customers in North America. With this additional capacity, the company aims to increase local production of advanced powder coating technologies. These technologies are used, among other things, in the automotive industry, commercial vehicles, and industrial applications. In addition, the investments are intended to support applications in next-generation mobility, battery systems, energy storage technologies, and other new manufacturing markets.

AkzoNobel Expands Powder Coatings Production at Three Sites

“Manufacturing continues to evolve rapidly, and our customers expect partners who will invest alongside them,” explains Jeff Jirak, Managing Director of AkzoNobel’s powder coatings business and a member of the Executive Committee. The investment strengthens the North American production network, expands manufacturing capabilities, and helps customers drive innovation, make their supply chains more resilient, and bring high-performance products to market. A key focus is on further modernizing the plant in Reading, which currently produces about 45 percent of AkzoNobel’s North American powder coating batches. Three new production lines, state-of-the-art bonding technology, and automated process controls have been installed there. At the Warsaw site, capacity was increased by 30 percent and the workforce was expanded by 10 percent. A new production facility for acrylates was built in Monterrey. At the same time, AkzoNobel is investing in the professional development of its employees. This includes training in advanced manufacturing processes and technical training for operating next-generation production technologies.
