AkzoNobel Announces Color of the Year 2027: Soulful Sage

AkzoNobel has named Soulful Sage the “Color of the Year 2027.” This soft, silvery-green shade forms the centerpiece of three color palettes and is intended to inspire innovation in architecture, the automotive industry, furniture, and industrial surfaces, among other areas.
Soulful Sage, AkzoNobel’s Color of the Year for 2027, is an ethereal, soft shade of green with silvery undertones. The selection is based on annual trend research conducted by AkzoNobel’s Global Aesthetic Center. In this process, the company collaborates with international architects, designers, and other experts to examine societal developments and their influence on color design. “Our Color of the Year 2027 is about creating lighter spaces for a lighter life,” explains Heleen van Gent, Creative Director of AkzoNobel’s Global Aesthetic Center. Many people feel overwhelmed by world events and the flood of information. Colors can help create spaces that counteract this feeling.
Trend Color for Industrial Surfaces and Architecture
Soulful Sage is at the heart of the three color palettes: “Glow,” “Light,” and “Lift.” Glow focuses primarily on earth tones and is designed to create a warm atmosphere. Light combines calm, light tones with darker shades. Lift, on the other hand, features positive, vibrant colors designed to be inspiring. The versatile shade of green, Soulful Sage, ties the three distinct color palettes together. AkzoNobel does not limit these color trends to decorative wall paints. The collection’s colors, textures, and special effects were developed for various markets. These include applications in the aerospace, automotive, and consumer electronics industries, as well as metal furniture, lighting, cabinets, flooring, building products, and architecture. The company’s annual trend forecast, ColourFutures, is based on an international exchange among the company’s own experts, architects, designers, and journalists. The goal is to identify societal changes early on and use them to derive color palettes for various industries and applications.
