By exchanging ideas with people who share our interests and problems and working together on the issues that move us, everyone can benefit. For this reason, a conference was once again held in Sindelfingen on Tuesday, March 7, 2023, which focused on training and continuing education in coating technology. The platform for training and further education attracted companies and trainers, technical students as well as teachers. Dr. Oliver Tiedje from the Frauenhofer Institute for Production Technology and Automation was invited as a guest speaker.
Varied program with technical lecture on coating thickness measurement
The conference program was diverse and offered participants a wide range of topics. The welcome and presentation of the program was followed by a report from the classes on the current state of training in coating technology. Particular focus was placed on the shortage of apprentices and skilled workers, as well as the opportunity presented by the AVDual model. Participants also received information about continuing education programs funded by the German Federal Employment Agency.
A special highlight of the conference was the technical presentation by Dr. Oliver Tiedje on the subject of coating thickness measurement. This explained the significance of coating thicknesses as a fundamental quality property of surfaces, methods for measuring coating thicknesses and their consequences for the production process.
Career opportunities through further training
Another item on the conference agenda was the presentation of two lessons on the same subject at vocational school level and technical college level. Here, the focus was primarily on the interlinking of learning content within the framework of the DQR levels as well as preparation for studies and activities in middle management at the technical college. The importance of relationship work as a hinge for successful training and career development of young people was also addressed here.
After all, the chances of taking one's career as a specialist to the next level are extremely high at the moment. After all, the shortage of skilled workers also extends into middle management. With further training to become a state-certified technician at the Technical College for Industrial Coating Technology, the sought-after qualifications to take on the relevant positions are acquired. Starting in November 2023, applications can be submitted to GDS1 for the technical college course starting in the 2024/2025 school year.
Valuable platform for exchange on continuing education
In the plenary session, participants had the opportunity to discuss their concerns and questions. After the program, there was room for discussion and exchange with other participants and teachers.
The event was a great success and offered the participants a valuable platform for exchange and further education. At the end, the organizers thanked all participants and gave a preview of the next platform in March next year. (OM-3/23)
