Saxonia Galvanik Begins Operations at New Selective Metal Plating Facility

Saxonia Galvanik continues to grow and has commissioned a new metal plating facility. The plating process is selective, resulting in significantly lower plating costs, faster cycle times, and lower labor costs.
Saxonia Galvanik is expanding amid an economic climate in the German automotive supply industry that has recently been characterized by reluctance to invest, layoffs, and even bankruptcies, and has commissioned a new metal plating facility. With this innovative facility, the company is in tune with the times: not only does it significantly reduce coating costs through very fast cycle times and low labor costs, but above all, it enables savings on expensive raw materials and energy. Coating is applied selectively, meaning that only specific areas defined by the customer are electroplated—using up to three different metals. For example, one area of a component is silver-plated, while another is tin-plated. Under-nickel plating is also possible. Sustainability is also a priority in material selection; both tin and silver come from so-called “second sources,” meaning they are recovered through recycling.
Saxonia’s new electroplating plant is operating at full capacity
Where are the parts needed? Currently, there are large orders and further inquiries from the automotive industry, which ensure good utilization of the facility from the moment it goes into operation. Busbars for use in electric vehicles are in particularly high demand. Thanks to this positive development, the company has succeeded in positioning itself strongly both financially and in terms of personnel. In addition to the launch of the company’s third metal plating facility, the plastic plating division has also stabilized after several challenging years and has been growing again since 2025. Solid finances and the ability to coat complex plastics and designs—combined with high flexibility and responsiveness—have been key contributors to this success. “Even though the market remains unpredictable in terms of capacity and highly demanding, our broader portfolio across markets and materials has helped us better offset these fluctuations. We are very grateful to our team for their tremendous dedication and flexibility along this journey,” said Managing Director Henrik Greschner.
