Polytec at PaintExpo 2024: Inline measuring system for powders and paints
Polytec will be presenting the new Enovasense system for determining the coating thickness of powder and paint coatings at PaintExpo 2024. The inline system is designed for epoxy and polyester coatings on metallic, polymer and composite substrates as well as enamel coatings.
The new Enovasense system from Polytec is able to measure directly after the paint has been applied as well as after curing or drying. Measurements are taken during the production process completely without interference, contact-free and in real time. The measurable coating thickness is between 0.2 and 500 micrometers, with an accuracy of less than 3% of the measured thickness. The measuring head is equipped with a camera for object detection, a laser for targeting the automatically generated measuring points and a blowing device. It can be used at different paint line speeds and with changing objects.
Contactless real-time measurement reduces operating costs When it comes to powder coatings, the quality of the coating is crucial. Measuring its thickness or uniformity is essential for quality control, especially at critical points. Systems based on the photothermal measuring method open up practical possibilities here, as they are suitable for almost all transparent or semi-transparent coatings on all common substrates. Measuring times of approx. one second also allow direct integration into the production process, even in applications where one hundred percent quality control was previously not possible. New photothermal measuring systems are supplied ex works with the appropriate calibration, which makes the technology much easier to use.
