Mirka is introducing a new grinding tool for machining gears and other toothed workpieces with interfering contours. The new mini grinding worms are individually adapted and are specially designed for generating grinding in confined geometries.

To reduce the required installation space, modern gearboxes are becoming increasingly compact in design. As a result, individual components such as gears are moving ever closer together. At the same time, the requirements for smooth running and efficiency of the gears are increasing. Generating grinding processes are often used to improve the surface quality of the gears and reduce noise and friction losses. However, one particular challenge when generating grinding compact gears is the so-called interference contours. Due to the large diameter of conventional grinding worms, closely spaced gears can hinder machining as unwanted collisions can occur between the tool and the component. As a result, certain gear components cannot be machined completely and precisely with conventional tools.

Mirka mini grinding worms for complex gear designs

New mini grinding worms with a diameter of less than 150 mm provide a remedy. They enable generating grinding processes even on components where the use of conventional grinding worms was previously not possible due to the risk of collision. This means that even complex and particularly compact gear designs can be machined efficiently and reliably. Target applications include generating grinding and polishing of components for various gearboxes (e.g. in e-mobility) as well as other gears with challenging interfering contours. The mini grinding worms are individually adapted to the workpiece geometry and the requirements of the grinding process in order to achieve the best machining results with maximum productivity. As the mini grinding worms are precisely tailored to the respective application, they are not just a product, but a comprehensive solution including technical application advice. In this way, users can ensure both the efficiency of their production and the geometric precision of their components.
