Evident scanners increase efficiency in corrosion and weld seam inspections

Evident has significantly improved the usability and versatility of its field-proven phased array inspection solutions, MapRover and SteerRover Scanner. New functions facilitate weld seam and corrosion inspections on hard-to-reach areas and hot surfaces of pipes, large tanks and pressure vessels.
Thanks to the improved design, the remote control for Evident's MapRover and SteerRover scanners is now much more robust. The clearer touch screen and practical magnetic holders make it easier to operate, leaving inspectors hands free. The new Recon camera kit improves the remote control and validation capabilities of the SteerRover steerable scanner. Inspectors can more easily control the scanner remotely and better track sensor position and weld alignment to avoid rescanning. In addition, the low-latency Ethernet connection, HD video capability and LED lighting enable real-time monitoring of scan progress and surface condition, even in low-light environments.
The integrated Recon Studio software on the camera kit tablet facilitates inspection analysis and reporting to complete inspections even faster. The application provides comprehensive recording capabilities, including encoder information, to better detect irregularities and effectively correlate ultrasonic data readings. The additional electronic cooling system with liquid-filled cooling plates on the MapRover High-Temp (HT) guide rail and scanner enables fast, efficient corrosion visualization on surfaces up to 350 °C. This heat-resistant technology prevents costly production downtime and contributes to increased safety and efficiency when testing in high-temperature environments. "These improvements to our MapRover and SteerRover scanners are proof that we are delivering on our promise and constantly evolving our solutions to make inspectors' jobs easier," said Simon Alain, Senior Product Manager at Evident. "The scanners are more efficient, safer and more accurate and can be used for the most demanding weld and corrosion inspections on tanks, pipes and pressure vessels."
