DIN EN ISO 2081 appeared - Electroplated zinc coatings on iron and steel

The standard DIN EN ISO 2081 for galvanic zinc coatings on iron and steel is available in an updated version. The 2026-02 edition replaces earlier versions and specifies, among other things, the scope of application and individual technical references.
The standard DIN EN ISO 2081 "Metallic and other inorganic coatings - Electroplated coatings on iron and steel using zinc treated with chromium(VI)-containing solutions" was published with the issue date February 2026. It corresponds to the German version of EN ISO 2081:2025 and replaces the previous editions DIN EN ISO 2081:2018-07 and DIN EN ISO 2081:2024-10. The standard describes requirements for galvanic zinc coatings that are post-treated in chromium(VI)-containing solutions and is particularly relevant for applications in the corrosion protection of steel components.
Changes to DIN EN ISO 2081 for electroplated zinc coatings
In the course of the revision, the title of the standard was adapted. In addition, Table 2 has been expanded to reflect additional technical specifications. At the same time, all references to passivation with trivalent chromium [Cr(III)] were removed from the document. These systems are now dealt with in the separate standard DIN EN ISO 19598, which creates a clearer delimitation of the areas of application. The regulations on sampling have also been revised. The relevant references have been updated to better reflect the procedures commonly used in industrial practice. The new edition of DIN EN ISO 2081 is available from DIN Media GmbH in Berlin.
