Draft standard E DIN EN ISO 1456 Electroplated coatings published

The draft standard E DIN EN ISO 1456 "Metallic and other inorganic coatings - Electroplated coatings of nickel, nickel plus chromium, copper plus nickel and copper plus nickel plus chromium (ISO/DIS 1456:2025)" has been published with issue date 2025-10.
The draft standard E DIN EN ISO 1456 specifies requirements for decorative coatings of nickel, nickel plus chromium, copper plus nickel and copper plus nickel plus chromium deposited on iron, steel, zinc alloys, copper and copper alloys and on aluminum and aluminum alloys to improve appearance and corrosion resistance, according to the ZVO. Designations of coatings are specified, which differ in thickness and type, and a guide is given for selecting the appropriate coating designation depending on the level of stress to which the coated article will be subjected.
The document does not specify requirements for the required surface condition of the base metal prior to the coating process (see guidance in 5.4) and does not apply to coatings on sheet, strip or wire in unmachined form (semi-finished products) or to threaded fasteners or coil springs. It can be obtained from DIN Media GmbH, 10772 Berlin (address: Am DIN-Platz, Burggrafenstraße 6, 10787 Berlin), dinmedia.de. The draft standard can be commented on in the draft standard portal until November 12, 2025.
