Johannes Florek was honored as the best surface coater apprentice of 2025 by Marion Regal, representing the DGO, at the vocational school center for construction and surface technology in Zwickau on November 27, 2025 at his training company, TZO Leipzig.

Johannes Florek came to the surface coating apprenticeship in an unusual way: Shortly before leaving school, he noticed an advertisement for TZO Leipzig on the Leipzig streetcar. He enquired about the requirements and finally applied. During his training, it quickly became apparent that Florek had a talent for the analytical laboratory. And so, in addition to the classic training cycle - manual electroplating, automatic electroplating, grinding/polishing - he was increasingly assigned to these processes during his training. His teacher Benjamin Trinks attests to his highly analytical thinking. For him, he was his "teaching joker": if no other apprentice could answer the questions asked, Florek could - and was always perfectly prepared. However, he never pushed himself to the fore with his knowledge.

Award for best apprentice of the year from DGO

Thanks to the knowledge and experience he gained during his training and his calm, reliable work in the production and analytical laboratory, TZO offered him a position in the laboratory after his final examination. After just under six months, Florek has already acquired so much knowledge that he can not only carry out Hull cell tests, but also analytical tests required for production monitoring. He will continue on his chosen path and consider further qualification. The DGO presented the best student of the year with a certificate, a textbook, a voucher for a one-year free subscription to the ZVOreport and the magazine Galvanotechnik and a free junior membership until his 28th birthday. The TZO thanked him for his achievements with a cash voucher.
