AkzoNobel completes expansion of its largest powder coating plant

A major capacity expansion has been completed at AkzoNobel's powder coatings site in Como, Italy, which will help ensure supply to customers across Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA).
Following the €21 million project, four new production lines are now in operation at AkzoNobel's powder coatings site in Italy - two for automotive primers and two for architectural coatings. New bonding equipment has also been added to ensure products meet and exceed industry standards. "The expansion of our capacity in Como is a significant milestone that supports our ambition to create security of supply for our customers," explains Sanal Limoncuoglu, Commercial Director of AkzoNobel's Powder Coatings business in Southern and Eastern Europe (S&EE) and Middle East Africa (MEA). "We are now well equipped to serve all our customers in the EMEA region with highly efficient facilities that are state of the art in terms of consistency and quality."
The additional capacity in Como has been installed in a refurbished building that originally produced powder coatings - a sustainable reuse of an existing part of the site that was established in 1992. The new facilities also use recycled energy and are designed to meet the highest standards of sustainable production to support the company's goal to reduce its carbon emissions by 50% by 2030. AkzoNobel's Como site is the company's largest powder coatings manufacturing plant. It supplies products for seven main market segments: Household Appliances, Architecture, Automotive, Agriculture and Construction Machinery, Commercial Coaters, Furniture and General Industry.
