AkzoNobel launches low-energy powder coating on the market
AkzoNobel is the first company in the industry to launch a powder coating for architectural paints that can be cured at temperatures of up to 150°C and still achieve Qualicoat Class 1 certification.
By curing at 30°C lower temperatures than conventional powder coatings, Interpon D1036 Low-E allows customers to reduce energy consumption by up to 20%. According to the company, it also cures up to 25 percent faster than conventional powder coatings, allowing more products to be coated in less time. The product's sustainability is underpinned by an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD), an independently verified assessment of a product's environmental impact throughout its life. "At a time when every business needs to do its part to reduce energy consumption and promote sustainability, Interpon D1036 Low-E will help our customers reduce their carbon emissions - and help us achieve our own goal of a 50% carbon reduction across the value chain by 2030," explains Jeff Jirak, Head of the company's Powder Coatings business.
"We are proud to offer innovative solutions that help address some of the common sustainability and energy saving issues facing coaters, converters and our own business." The new range is suitable for many areas of the built environment, inside and out, from building facades and windows to railings and doors - or any application where an architecturally certified product is commonly used. Key features include excellent durability, which protects the integrity of the color and performance. Jirak adds: "As we move towards our net zero emissions target, we will continue to work closely with our customers to understand their needs and provide them with the products they require so that together we can create a more sustainable future." AkzoNobel has not only committed to generating 50% less carbon emissions across the value chain by 2030, but also aims to achieve 100% circular use of materials by the end of the decade and generate 50% of sales from sustainable solutions.
