New Evonik Tego Flow 380 flow control agent for high-quality automotive clearcoats

Evonik Coating Additives is expanding its Tego Flow series with an efficient polyacrylate-based flow control agent. Tego Flow 380 is suitable for solventborne coatings, especially clear coatings. The main areas of application are automotive and general industrial coatings.
According to the manufacturer, the new leveling agent TegoFlow 380 from Evonik's Coating Additives Business Line is characterized by excellent anti-boil properties and good compatibility. Its main areas of application are automotive and general industrial coatings. Tego Flow 380 consists of 100 percent active ingredient and is based on a unique polymer technology. "The key here is controlled incompatibility," explains Maximilian Morin, head of the Industrial & Transportation Coatings market segment. A certain degree of incompatibility with the coating formulation is important for the flow effect, but too much can cause surface defects such as gloss loss or haze. "With Tego Flow 380, we have balanced the incompatibility well, resulting in excellent performance," Morin says. In addition, the new flow agent supports recoatability, which is especially important for automotive repairs.
Because of its low viscosity, Tego Flow 380 is particularly easy to incorporate into the formulation. "It can be used directly, no dilution is necessary," says Michael Wang, Applied Research & Technology - Industrial & Transportation Coatings. In addition, the new product is particularly sustainable: for one thing, it shows excellent performance even at low dosages. For another, the flow agent emits very little VOC (volatile organic compounds), which makes it attractive for formulations with a high solids content due to its very low viscosity effect.
