Teledyne Flir IIS introduces the Dragonfly S series, a new modular and compact USB3 camera series for industrial image processing. The new series can be used for optical inspections, among other things, and covers the market for a modular, compact and lightweight camera for series production.

Teledyne Flir IIS (formerly Point Grey Research), pioneer of the USB area scan camera concept, adds the new Dragonfly S USB3 camera series to its machine vision portfolio. The new series addresses the fundamental market need for a modular, compact and lightweight camera for volume manufacturing, volume-based applications and multi-camera systems. Dragonfly S features a modular design to accelerate the early stages of vision application development for a variety of industrial and non-industrial segments. "This is a uniquely practical option for manufacturers of factory automation and embedded vision products," said Sadiq Panjwani, General Manager at Teledyne Flir IIS. "The modular concept of the new camera allows engineers to quickly test, develop and bring competitive machine vision products to market at scale."

The camera series is ideal for embedded or handheld applications such as biometric kiosk solutions, ophthalmoscopy, 3D scanning, automated optical inspection and more. It is available in various configurations, from board level to a fully enclosed module in a robust aluminum housing. The USB port is offered in a rear or side orientation with a screw locking mechanism. According to the manufacturer, these modular options offer maximum flexibility and durability and enable seamless integration in space-constrained applications. The housing models comply with EMC safety class B, as the reduction of electromagnetic interference is crucial for healthcare and residential applications. In addition, an integrated image memory ensures that every captured image is reliably transmitted to the host CPU. The first model in the Dragonfly S series is now available for pre-order. Further models from VGA to 8MP are planned for 2024.
