Horst Lach, an icon of the diamond tool industry, is celebrating his 85th birthday. With a life full of pioneering innovations and tireless commitment, he has left a lasting mark on the industry and made Lach Diamant a leading global supplier.

Horst Lach, born on April 3, 1940, joined the company founded by his father in 1960 and played a key role in shaping its future with innovative ideas. Under the watchful eye of his father, Jakob Lach, he continued to develop the company and initiated the transition from a diamond grinding company to a pioneer in the diamond tool industry. With his visionary ideas and unerring instinct for innovation, Horst Lach set new standards and left a lasting mark on the industry.

A life for diamond tools

From the development of the first CBN grinding wheels to the introduction of polycrystalline diamond in the tool industry - Horst Lach has always been a driving force for progress. Particularly noteworthy is his pioneering discovery of machining polycrystalline diamond using electrical discharge machining, which laid the foundation for today's mass production in the wood, furniture and kitchen industries. Over 100 years later, Horst Lach has developed the company into a successful tool manufacturer: Lach Diamant produces high-precision diamond and CBN tools worldwide and develops suitable tool concepts together with its customers from the automotive, aerospace, wind power, electronics, furniture and many other industries. The company now employs over 150 people at its sites in Hanau, Lichtenau near Chemnitz and Grand Rapids/Michigan, USA.

Horst Lach looks to the future

Even at the age of 85, Horst Lach's innovative spirit remains unchecked. Supported by an experienced team and his family, especially his daughters Iris, Denise and Annabelle, and hand in hand with his son Robert Lach, he continues to lead the company into a promising future. Lach Diamant remains a key player in the development of new tool concepts for the wind power, aircraft and automotive industries. Horst Lach is a Hanau native with a love for his home town and is involved in many cultural and sporting activities in the region. Together with his wife Margot, he is proud of his descendants - now his five children, nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
