While most people retire at the age of 65, Horst Lach can look back on exactly 65 years of working life - without a break, but with tireless commitment, visionary ideas and a life's work that has had a lasting impact on the diamond tool industry.

On October 1, 1960, the then 20-year-old Horst Lach joined Lach Diamant, the company founded by his father Jakob Lach. Under his leadership, the small diamond cutting shop in Hanau developed into an internationally active company with three locations: Hanau, Lichtenau near Chemnitz and its own company in Grand Rapids, Michigan (USA). He still runs Lach Diamant together with his son Robert Lach.

Horst Lach as an industry pioneer

Horst Lach is a visionary with heart and soul who drove the industry forward with unconventional ideas. He was the first to process the innovative PCD cutting material with spark erosion - a breakthrough that made series production in the wood and furniture industry possible in the first place. Without this step, many everyday products would be many times more expensive today. The introduction of the abrasive "Borazon" (CBN) at the Hanover Trade Fair in 1969 also remains unforgotten and is considered another milestone. In addition to his work as an entrepreneur, Horst Lach is also an author and chronicler. He currently publishes series in trade journals such as "Polypoly oder was" and "100 Jahre Lach Diamant", in which he describes the development of diamond and CBN tools from the perspective of a contemporary witness. Despite his 85 years, Horst Lach is in the office in Hanauer Donaustraße almost every day, driving new projects forward and bursting with ideas. Supported by his wife Margot, his five children, nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, he remains a real driving force - both in the company and in life.
