IGP Powder Coatings is introducing HWFsmart 59 and HWFsmart 59 Biosource, two new, highly weather-resistant, low-temperature powder coating systems for facades. They enable more energy-efficient coating processes and reduce the carbon footprint through the use of bio-based raw materials.

IGP Powder Coatings is expanding its portfolio with two innovative product lines: IGP-HWFsmart 59 and IGP-HWFsmart 59 Biosource. The new highly weather-resistant powder coating systems replace the proven HWFclassic 59 series. Following the successful launch of IGP-DURAone, the first highly reactive low-temperature system, IGP is consistently pursuing its low-temperature strategy. The construction and coatings industries face growing challenges: Cost pressures, global political uncertainties, and increasingly stringent regulatory requirements are placing a noticeable strain on companies. At the same time, demand for sustainable construction methods is rising. Low-temperature systems are increasingly coming into focus as a key technology in this context. They combine environmental responsibility with economic efficiency. IGP-HWFsmart 59 is a quality-certified powder coating series that combines highly weather-resistant performance with efficient low-temperature technology. Thanks to its high reactivity, the system cures completely in as little as 15 minutes at 160 °C. The reduced curing conditions significantly lower energy consumption and shorten process times. The CO₂ footprint per coated component is reduced. At the same time, the facade protection remains durable, and the wide range of design options in terms of colors, effects, and finishes is preserved.

IGP Powder Coatings Reduces CO₂ Emissions in the Construction Industry

More energy-efficient processes make an important contribution to a low-emission future. However, when considering the powder coating value chain holistically, raw materials prove to be the largest driver of emissions. This is precisely where IGP-HWFsmart 59 Biosource comes into play. The ISCC-PLUS-certified IGP-Biosource product variant is based on polyester resin systems, with over 90% of their raw materials derived from bio-based and bio-circular sources. They are allocated using the recognized mass balance approach. This approach promotes the bioeconomy by specifically replacing fossil-based raw materials with renewable and bio-circular alternatives—while maintaining consistent quality and performance. IGP already relies on the highest possible certified proportion of mass-balanced raw materials in the resin, thereby playing a pioneering role in the global powder coating industry. In combination with low-temperature technology, the system significantly reduces CO₂ emissions throughout the entire value chain. “The construction industry faces the challenge of balancing environmental responsibility with economic efficiency. With our new HWFsmart 59 systems, IGP offers coating companies and architects a solution that enables both—without compromising on quality and durability.” Savvas Legidis, Chief Technology Officer at IGP Powder Coatings.
