The annual Heinz-Leuze Prize was awarded in 2025 to a publication on battery technology. It was awarded at the ZVO Surface Technology Days on 24 September to Phillip Scherzl, Michael Kaupp and Prof. Dr. Timo Sörgel for the technical paper "Electroforming of aluminum foils".

On the opening evening of the ZVO Surface Technology Days on September 24, 2025, Florian Pantleon was awarded the Heinz-Leuze Prize in addition to the DGO Young Talent Award of 1000 euros. Phillip Scherzl, Michael Kaupp and Prof. Dr. Timo Sörgel received the prize, endowed with 2000 euros, for their outstanding publication on the topic of "Electroforming of aluminum foils" in the February and March 2024 issues of "Galvanotechnik" from Prof. Bund, Head of the Department of Electrochemistry and Electroplating at TU Ilmenau, and Klaus Decker, Managing Director of Eugen G. Leuze Verlag.

Heinz Leuze Prize as an important industry award

The specialist publisher with its wide range of electroplating literature and the trade journals "Galvanotechnik" and Plus sponsors the award, which also includes a silver coin with the likeness of the publisher Heinz Leuze and a certificate. The award is one of the most important honors in the industry. Prof. Andreas Bund, described the publication by the three scientists as a bridge between electroplating and battery technology.
