The European Research Society for Thin Films (EFDS) and the Space2Motion innovation network are hosting a webinar on September 29 and 30, 2026, on the topic of “High-Performance Coatings for Aerospace Applications.” The focus will be on thin-film technologies for the aerospace industry.

Components in the aerospace industry are subjected to extreme stresses. Significant temperature fluctuations, corrosion, and erosion place high demands on materials and surfaces. Modern thin-film technologies help to sustainably increase the reliability, safety, and service life of engines, satellites, and external structures. The two-day online webinar brings together experts from research and industry who will present current developments, new research findings, and practical applications. The focus is on innovative surface solutions that meet the increasing demands of modern aerospace systems. The event is organized around four key themes: Extreme Operating Conditions, Intelligent Systems, Efficient Processes, and Analytics and Validation. The presentations will demonstrate how innovations in materials science are translated into concrete applications for safety-critical systems and what potential this holds for future technologies.

High-Performance Coatings for Aerospace Applications

The webinar is jointly organized by the European Research Society for Thin Films (EFDS) and the Space2Motion network. For more than 30 years, the EFDS has been promoting knowledge transfer between science and industry, particularly for small and medium-sized enterprises. Space2Motion, an initiative of the German Aerospace Center (DLR) managed by EurA AG, connects approximately 275 stakeholders from the aerospace, automotive, and mobility sectors. According to the organizers, the collaboration aims to strengthen interdisciplinary exchange and provide new impetus for the development of high-performance and sustainable mobility solutions. The online webinar is aimed at specialists and executives from industry, research, and quality assurance and will take place on September 29 and 30, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. each day via Microsoft Teams. Further information and registration are available through the EFDS.
