ABB Robotics has added an AI assistant to its RobotStudio simulation and programming software suite. The new RobotStudio AI Assistant harnesses the power of generative AI to make robot programming faster, easier and more accessible.

The RobotStudio AI Assistant is based on a Large Language Model (LLM) that understands and interprets human language. The AI Assistant draws on a comprehensive library of manuals and documentation from ABB, enabling it to provide high-quality, context-rich answers. Users can quickly find the right answers to technical questions, which speeds up configuration. "This is the latest result of our more than ten years of development and commercialization of innovative AI solutions. We are adding value for our customers by increasing the versatility of robots and advancing their use beyond traditional manufacturing," emphasizes Marc Segura, Head of ABB's Robotics Division. "The demand for AI in robotics is fueled by the need for more flexibility and faster commissioning, as well as a shortage of skilled workers needed to program and operate robots. RobotStudio is widely recognized for saving the time and effort required to program and commission robots. By adding the generative AI assistant, we are adding further benefits. This allows us to reach less experienced users and help experts to master technical challenges more quickly."

The new AI assistant from ABB makes RobotStudio even more accessible. This meets the needs of smaller companies in particular, which usually lack the necessary expertise in robotics and automation. Using the AI assistant in RobotStudio's cloud-based offline programming environment also provides an ideal training tool for students and young professionals to develop these skills. RobotStudio is the world's most widely used robot programming and simulation tool, enabling teams to collaborate in real time across locations and devices. With features such as automatic path planning, it also helps customers reduce energy consumption and waste while optimizing productivity within their automated processes. Simpler, smarter human-machine interaction is also central to ABB Robotics' vision for a new generation of Autonomous Versatile Robotics (AVR™). "With the quantum leap in generative AI, we are driving innovation - far beyond fixed operations and coding - towards a world where robots can autonomously plan and execute a variety of tasks. We call this Autonomous Versatile Robotics - a new era of true versatility and independence," adds Marc Segura.
