On April 19, 2023, the Kunststoff-Institut is relaunching its InnovationForum Plastics Technology. In cooperation with TechnologyMountains and the Schwarzwald Baar Heuberg Chamber of Industry and Commerce, topics on effective digitalization, efficient processes, energy-saving measures and sustainability will be addressed in Villingen-Schwenningen.

Plastics processors don't have it easy. Circular economy, supply chain law, resource efficiency, rising energy costs, reduction of CO2 emissions and shortage of raw materials. These are just some of the issues being discussed in the industry. The plastics industry has understood that it must act holistically and not just look for simple solutions. Nevertheless, the balancing act between costs and sustainability must be achieved, even though the latter is becoming increasingly important. Within the InnovationForum, it will be shown how strategic sustainability can become a competitive advantage, with manageable input. In this context, the material plays a key role, as it can essentially influence the Footprint. Finding the right recycled or biomaterial in an almost unmanageable environment is fraught with a number of stumbling blocks. For example, how to approach the selection strategically and what data needs to be reconciled.

In order to make one's company more profitable and sustainable, digitization can make an important contribution if it is used correctly. This starts with the machine and continues through the process to component development and production. Practical examples will be presented at the forum. The continuously rising energy prices must not be ignored, as the topic of energy saving in the plastics industry is becoming more and more important. Examples will be shown of how the choice of processes in the area of machines, molds and peripherals can reduce the often high electrical power consumption, which makes an important contribution to the environment and also has a positive effect on costs. The forum will also address current technical topics: New developments in the field of EMC shielding by plastics, polypropylene as one of the problem solvers through to structure-borne sound measurement on injection molds. Inline viscosity measurement for the optimization of process variations is this year's topic in practical research. The event will be accompanied by an exhibition, registration deadline is 17.04.2023.
