With the new Tego Guard 9000 additive from Evonik Coating Additives, it is possible to protect building and house facades as soon as the facade paint is applied. Immediate, weatherproof and durable protection of building facades is achieved.

"The application of facade paints is highly dependent on the weather, because freshly applied facade paints have long drying times and are therefore more susceptible to water and dirt," says Ellen Reuter, head of the Decorative Coatings market segment for the EMEA region. "This is where Tego Guard 9000 comes in, improving the stabilization of paint components in facade paints so that the paint is quickly protected against weathering." While conventional exterior wall paints with a high pigment volume concentration (PVC) take about three hours or longer to dry, the new Tego Guard technology enables high rain resistance just minutes after painting. This is made possible by the electrostatic interaction between a cationic organic polymer and the anionic color components in the paint formulation - the so-called Quick-Set property of Tego Guard 9000.

The formulation allows the addition of the additive to be selected individually without affecting the storage stability of the ink. In addition, the additive can be used universally: regardless of the selected binder, PVK and color shade. Tego Guard 9000 is suitable for water-based and thus environmentally friendly facade paints. "With our new Tego Guard 9000, paint manufacturers can offer innovative and environmentally friendly facade paints that enable much more flexible and weather-independent application," says Katina Kiep, head of the Decorative Coatings market segment at Evonik Coating Additives. "Increasingly unpredictable and extreme weather conditions as a result of climate change, but also increasingly stringent regulatory requirements, are increasing demand for products that weatherproof building facades as quickly as possible after painting and provide lasting good protection against environmental influences."
