Henkel and Sasol: Adhesive solutions with lower carbon emissions

Henkel, a supplier of adhesives, sealants and functional coatings, and Sasol, a global technology leader in the field of Fischer-Tropsch synthesis, have entered into a strategic partnership to reduce the environmental impact of hotmelt adhesives.
By integrating Sasol's newly developed Sasolwax LC product range into Henkel's Technomelt portfolio for the European, Indian, Middle Eastern and African markets, Henkel now offers advanced adhesive solutions with a reduced carbon footprint - especially for manufacturers of consumer goods packaging. Sasolwax LC100, manufactured using Sasol's improved Fischer-Tropsch process, enables a cradle-to-gate reduction of the product carbon footprint (PCF) by 35 percent compared to proven standard formulations - without compromising on performance. As a direct replacement in Henkel's proven formulations, it enables a smooth transition in production lines while supporting Henkel's goal to reduce absolute Scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions by 30 percent by 2030 (base year 2021). The partnership reflects both companies' joint alignment with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) and their commitment to credible sustainability practices. The PCF methodology applied to the entire Sasolwax value chain has been carefully developed and independently verified to meet the requirements of ISO 14040, 14044 and 14067 standards - ensuring transparency and confidence in environmental claims.
Henkel and Sasol partnership for greater sustainability
"This partnership is an example of how innovation in materials science can deliver measurable benefits for our customers," says Corbett Wallace, Corporate Vice President Consumer Goods at Henkel Adhesive Technologies. "As the demand for more sustainable consumer goods increases, our collaboration with Sasol enables brand owners to achieve their environmental goals without compromising on quality or performance. Together, we are creating the basis for smarter and more responsible choices along the entire value chain." "We are proud to be working with Henkel in this strategic partnership - an important milestone on our joint journey towards a more sustainable future," said David Mokomela, Senior Vice President Chemicals Marketing & Sales at Sasol. "The Sasplwax LC product range, with a 35 percent reduction in product carbon footprint, is just the first step in a broader plan to achieve further significant savings. As our products are designed as direct replacement solutions, the market can quickly benefit from the next steps in reducing the carbon footprint." Technomelt adhesives are used in a wide range of applications - from food and beverage packaging to hygiene and personal care products. With the integration of Sasolwax LC100, Henkel enables its partners to improve the sustainability of their products at the material level, helping consumer brands to meet their climate targets while promoting greater transparency in the supply chain. The partnership also includes further research into renewable and recycled raw materials, supported by Sasol's flexible synthesis processes and joint efforts for sustainable innovation.
