Henkel develops recyclable coating for packaging
With Loctite Liofol HS 2819 RE, Henkel Adhesive Technologies presents a heat-seal coating that is fully recyclable and meets high safety standards thanks to the use of harmless ingredients. It can be used for primary and secondary packaging, for example for food or hygiene articles.
The requirements for coating solutions for primary and secondary packaging are high. More and more companies from the food and non-food industry are demanding a solution that enables packaging to be recycled and reduces plastic waste in the value chain. At the same time, safety plays an important role, which is why the solution should contain safe chemicals and therefore also be suitable for food packaging. To meet these requirements, Henkel has launched the Loctite Liofol HS 2819 RE heat-seal coating. The formulation contains only ingredients classified as safe and is free from substances of concern such as mineral oils, so that it can be used for sealing primary packaging with direct food contact without any problems. Under certain conditions, Loctite Liofol HS 2819 RE is suitable for the manufacture of food packaging materials in accordance with current FDA and EC regulations and BfR recommendations.
Coating solution for sustainable packaging design
With Loctite Liofol HS 2819 RE, Henkel is focusing on sustainability. The recyclability of the product has been proven by accredited testing institutes. It also offers opportunities for sustainable packaging design by allowing paper to be used instead of plastic for both primary and secondary packaging. This is made possible by its compatibility with the recycling process: the solution can be easily integrated into the paper conversion process and can replace PE and PE-Coex paper. Loctite Liofol HS 2819 RE thus supports the reduction of plastic packaging without compromising on performance and production efficiency. It has very good sealability against itself and against paper, while the low sealing initiation temperature ensures higher efficiency. In addition, Loctite Liofol HS 2819 RE can be used on both flexo and gravure printing machines for a variety of paper packaging solutions, ensuring maximum strength even at high machine speeds.
