Kullen-Koti is not only one of the leading suppliers of tool brushes for the mechanical processing of semi-finished aluminum products, but also one of the top suppliers to manufacturers of equipment for the production of aluminum materials and their alloys for the aerospace and automotive industries. In the continuous heat treatment plants for recrystallization, condition annealing and solution annealing as well as for the refining of semi-finished aluminum products, for example, they rely on the furnace transport rolls from Kullen-Koti.
Furnace transport rollers ensure precise straight running through processing equipment
The furnace transport rollers from Kullen-Koti are primarily roller brushes, which are characterized by very high-quality, particularly dense wire trimmings and coverings. These trimmings and coverings ensure that the sheets, plates or panels run through the processing equipment in a precise straight line. In this way, they prevent unwanted material deposits (pick-up) on the roll and protect the undersides of the semi-finished aluminum products. In this way, the furnace transport rollers from Kullen-KotiI not only support homogeneous process control during heat treatment, but also reduce the cost of plant maintenance. The heat-treated plates or sheets can usually be transferred to the next process stage without further post-treatment.
Standing vertically on the roller
In order to optimally implement the requirements and operating conditions of different users and plant manufacturers, Kullen-Koti's furnace rollers are usually fitted with extremely homogeneous wire trimmings so that the highest possible density of their surfaces is guaranteed. What this means in concrete terms is demonstrated by the company using the brush band setting of its DBS (double band spiral) series: Its individual wires are positioned vertically on the roller with high precision and evenly spaced. They can be made of materials resistant to heat of up to 1,200 °C.
The entire brush surface is also sheared for optimum concentricity and ground to a grip-free finish in the axial and radial directions. This is done at Kullen-Koti in a machining center specially developed for this purpose and probably unique in the world, which also allows the surface of the transport roller to be given a concave curvature or a convex hollow grind.
Utilize furnace capacity to the maximum
Kullen-Koti's high quality standards ultimately ensure that the company's furnace transport rollers exhibit excellent transport behavior. In practice, this means that their tracking accuracy is very high and the lateral offset is minimal. As a result, the available kiln space can be optimally utilized and the wear of the transport rollers remains low, so that they achieve long service lives. (OM-09/22)
Kullen-Koti also offers suitable roller brushes for cleaning the work rolls in hot rolling mills. This enables coating-free surfaces to be produced on hot-rolled aluminum strip, which is one of the key quality requirements of the processing industry. By cleaning the work rolls in the hot rolling stand with the aid of oscillating roll brushes, the aluminum oxide layer that has built up during the rolling process is removed. It must be taken into account here that a uniform residual film must be maintained. These roll brushes are therefore matched to the requirements of the roll stand or cleaning device, as well as the emulsion used and the surface condition of the work rolls. Deflection roller cleaning in the hot rolling stand can also be accomplished with Kullen-Koti roller brushes.
At the Aluminium 2022 trade fair in Düsseldorf, Kullen-Koti will present the latest generation of its furnace transport rollers for use in roller hearth furnaces. First-hand information on the technical features and quality characteristics of these special brushes, which are usually delivered ready for installation and are often modified to customer specifications, will be available to engineers, buyers and maintenance personnel in the aluminum industry in Hall 7A at Booth D30.
