Settling
Settling refers to the sinking to the bottom of pigments and fillers in coating materials, resulting in the formation of a sediment. This process occurs when the solid components of a coating gradually sink to the bottom of the container due to gravity. Settling can affect the homogeneity and quality of the coating, as the distribution of pigments and fillers becomes uneven.
To prevent this, stabilizers or thickeners are often added to keep the particles in suspension and thus reduce the formation of a sediment. Regular stirring or agitation of the coating materials can also help to prevent settling and maintain the quality of the coating.
