Migration

The migration or penetration of binders or plasticizers from coating films into the substrate or adjacent coating layers is a well-known phenomenon in the coating industry. The chemical components of the coating penetrate beyond the boundaries of the film and enter either the underlying material or neighboring layers.

This can be facilitated by various factors such as temperature, moisture, pressure or chemical interactions. Penetration can lead to undesirable effects such as adhesion problems, changes in surface properties or even impairment of the overall performance of the coating. It is therefore important to take appropriate measures to minimize the migration of binders or plasticizers and to maintain the integrity of the coating.
