Hot-dip galvanizing
Hot-dip galvanizing is an effective corrosion protection process that is widely used in the metalworking industry. In this process, steel or iron is coated by immersing it in molten zinc. The process serves to protect the base metal from external influences such as rust and corrosion.
The hot-dip galvanizing process begins with thorough cleaning of the metal surface to be coated. This ensures that no impurities impair the quality of the coating process. The metal is then immersed in a zinc bath that has been heated to a high temperature. The heat melts the zinc and forms a solid, adherent layer on the steel or iron. The resulting zinc layer provides effective protection against environmental influences and significantly extends the service life of the treated material. This protective mechanism is based on the so-called sacrificial anode: the zinc sacrifices itself over time due to its electrochemical properties, while the underlying metal remains unharmed.
