Corrosion loss
Corrosion loss is a widespread phenomenon in various industries, especially those that work with metals. This undesirable phenomenon occurs when metals are damaged by chemical or electrochemical reactions with their environment. Typically, this results in material loss and deterioration of the structural integrity of the affected components.
Corrosion loss can take various forms, including surface corrosion, pitting corrosion and stress corrosion cracking. The effects can range from purely aesthetic problems to serious safety risks, particularly in applications such as aviation, shipbuilding and the oil and gas industry. Various measures are taken to minimize corrosion loss, including the use of corrosion-resistant materials, coatings and regular inspections for early detection of damage.
