The SKZ Plastics Center has expanded its portfolio of weathering and ageing tests. With the new equipment, it is now also possible to test larger components and complex geometries, including the weather resistance of coatings.

SAE J 2527 is a special standard for weathering issued by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). It originates from the automotive sector and is particularly widespread on the American market. In Europe, too, this standard is increasingly in demand from customers who operate internationally and want to have their products tested in accordance with the requirements of the US market. SAE J 2527 describes a standardized test method for evaluating the weather resistance of plastics, coatings and other materials under accelerated weathering conditions. A special feature of this standard is the sprinkling phase, in which the test specimens in the weathering device must be sprayed on both sides in some cases. This requirement cannot be met by many standard weathering devices - however, the SKZ has the appropriate technical equipment to be able to offer this test as an accredited service.

With the new testing equipment, the SKZ can now also weather larger molded parts up to an area of around 400 x 700 mm. This option is a special feature that cannot be offered by every testing service provider. "The expansion of our testing capacities for weathering in accordance with SAE J 2527 is another important step for us," explains Dr. Bernhard Ulmer, Group Manager Physical-Chemical Materials Testing. "It underlines our technical expertise and our commitment to enabling testing in accordance with international standards using state-of-the-art equipment - even for challenging geometries and larger components." The SKZ is thus expanding its already broad portfolio of weathering and ageing tests and strengthening its position as a competent partner for quality assurance and material evaluation in the plastics industry - both nationally and internationally.
