Ranga Yogeshwar congratulates Rieger Metallveredlung on its Top 100 success. The award ceremony took place on June 27, 2025 in Mainz as part of the German SME Summit for all SMEs that were awarded the Top 100 seal at the beginning of the year.

The science journalist Ranga Yogeshwar accompanies the Top 100 innovation competition, which is being held for the 32nd time, as a mentor. In the scientific selection process, Rieger Metallveredlung was particularly impressive in size category A (up to 50 employees in Germany) in the categories of external orientation / open innovation and innovation-promoting top management. This is the second time that the company has been among the top innovators. In the TOP 100 company portrait published on the occasion of the award, it says: "Aluminum - that's what we love." Franz Rieger, owner and Managing Director of Rieger Metallveredlung GmbH & Co KG, knows why: "It is the metal of choice for lightweight construction. However, it is not easy to refine. This is why the medium-sized company invests six-figure sums in research every year to improve material properties and surface appearance. In the search for optimization potential, the top management also keeps an eye on energy consumption and CO₂ emissions. It almost sounds like alchemy what the metal finishing company Rieger achieved last year: the Swabian family business generated a fifth more turnover - and yet consumed less energy than in the previous year. Reducing energy consumption and CO₂ emissions is a top priority for the management. While the focus in recent years has been on climate-neutral production, Franz Rieger has had a heat pump installed in the administration department in recent months. Electric cars as company vehicles and e-scooters are also planned.

Rieger generates half of its turnover with the automotive industry. The tinning of aluminum plays a particularly important role in e-mobility. Battery packs with parts refined by Rieger are installed in many manufacturers' brands. Refined aluminum parts are also used in decentralized power supplies. Cable connectors, which look like giant luster terminals, hold the cables of the expanded networks together. Together with research institutes, Rieger is optimizing the material properties of aluminium for these applications. However, the company does not limit itself to product innovations. The finishing processes themselves are also examined for their optimization potential. In line with the company philosophy of "quality, innovation, environmentally friendly production", Rieger pays particular attention to energy efficiency. Franz Rieger inherited his love of aluminum from his father. Back in the 1950s, Franz Rieger Senior galvanized the sophisticated metal. There is still room for improvement, for example in terms of the properties of the soft surface and solderability. The family business is a solution-oriented partner for numerous applications because it always gets a little more out of this fascinating material with new ideas and continuous improvements.
