With the iQ series, Lukas-Erzett is reorganizing its selection of abrasive flap discs. Three performance levels and four tool types are designed to help users find the right tool more quickly, depending on the material, application, and desired performance.

Whether it’s weld seam finishing, edge grinding, or surface finishing: The requirements for flap discs vary significantly depending on the material, geometry, and desired removal rate. At the same time, professional users expect high removal rates, consistent results, long service life, and cost-effective processes. With the iQ series, Lukas-Erzett has developed a solution designed to simplify tool selection for the desired result. Abrasive grain technologies such as zirconium corundum, CeramicAd, and CeramicPS are combined with various tool designs and Lukas’s sickle-shaped flap technology.

Tool Selection Based on Application and Performance

The iQ concept follows a clearly structured system. Instead of comparing numerous technical details of individual products, the selection is based on the requirements of the application. Key factors include the material, workpiece geometry, desired material removal rate, tool life, and process reliability. First, the appropriate performance class with the corresponding abrasive grain technology is determined, followed by the suitable grinding flap disc type. The three performance classes available are Light Duty, Medium Duty, and Heavy Duty. Zirconia corundum is intended for standard applications, CeramicAd for more demanding machining tasks, and CeramicPS for high removal rates in industrial applications.

Four abrasive flap discs for different tasks

In addition, the iQ series includes four specialized tool types. The SLTflex was developed for curved surfaces, contours, and fillet welds and utilizes crescent-shaped flap technology for high adaptability. The V2 Power covers a wide range of professional grinding tasks and combines efficient material removal with versatile applications. The V2 Edge, with its flexible flap overhang, is designed for edges, transitions, and complex geometries. The SLTT is designed for particularly heavy-duty applications; a steel backing plate, additional flaps, and a sturdy tool construction enable high material removal rates during intensive use.
