Ligna 2025 will be one of the most important milestones for the woodworking and wood processing industry on the way to the hoped-for industry turnaround, as became clear at the preview of the trade fair, the Ligna Preview in Hanover.

The Ligna Preview on February 20, 2025 in Hanover marked the start of Ligna 2025, the international trade fair for the woodworking and wood processing industry, which is also celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. The trade fair will occupy 10 halls and an outdoor area at the exhibition center in Hanover from May 26 to 30, 2025. Surface technology will be presented as the main theme of Ligna 2025 in the two halls 16 and 17. Three months before the start of the trade fair, 1,200 exhibitors from all over the world have already registered, who will occupy around 112,000 square meters of exhibition space. "Ligna is currently almost at the same level as the previous event," says Dr. Jochen Köckler, Chairman of the Board of Management, Deutsche Messe AG. "In view of the economic conditions, we are very grateful to everyone involved for their confidence in Ligna. We are convinced that the world's leading trade fair for the industry will ensure greater productivity and sustainability through fantastic innovations and thus provide the much-needed motivation and confidence for investments."

Ligna 2025 gives the woodworking industry confidence

Numerous members of the press, including the editors of Oberfläche-Online, and exhibitors came to Hanover for the start of the Ligna Preview, where Dr. Jochen Köckler addressed the current uncertainties in the industry, but also emphasized the importance of Ligna as a "rock in the surf" and thanked them for their support in difficult times. Markus Hüllmann, Chairman of the VDMA Woodworking Machinery Association, also called for optimism in difficult times. "The past year was difficult, but there are many reasons for optimism," said Hüllmann. "Our industry has excellent solutions for the wood industry. By utilizing automation and engineering expertise, we can reduce production costs, improve quality and maintain our competitive advantage." The industry association VDMA expects a stable level for 2025 and emphasizes the advantages for German and European manufacturers through automation and innovation. The subsequent presentation by Thijs Meijerink from Ikea showed how this can be implemented in practice: Meijerink gave a brief insight into product development and manufacturing at Ikea. The company is already using innovative techniques and tools - from design and quality control of surfaces, for example, to automation and efficiency improvements in furniture production. The industry is therefore counting on the next Ligna as one of the most important milestones on the way to the hoped-for industry turnaround.
