Laserax acquires a majority stake in SLCR Lasertechnik and enters into a strategic partnership with the German specialist. Together, the two companies are expanding their offerings in the field of laser surface treatment.
The Canadian laser specialist Laserax and the German company SLCR Lasertechnik have entered into a strategic partnership. Laserax is acquiring a majority stake in SLCR and, with it, operational control. Both companies will remain independent. SLCR will continue to be led by founder and CEO Olav G. Schulz, supported by the second managing director, Steffen Neuhaus. The companies bring different areas of expertise to the partnership: Laserax develops turnkey machines in proven product families that can be quickly integrated into production lines, allow for customization as needed, and are designed for high-volume production. SLCR, on the other hand, focuses on applications for which there is no standard solution and develops custom systems in which optics, mechanics, electronics, and software are coordinated. This will enable customers to receive both standardized and custom-developed solutions from a single source in the future.
Joint Portfolio for Laser Surface Treatment
With this merger, Laserax is also expanding its presence in Europe. From its base in Langerwehe, SLCR manages system engineering, sales, and service for the European market, while Laserax offers both solution concepts primarily in North America. In return, SLCR gains access to Laserax’s international sales and support network. Both companies already have a strong presence in the automotive industry, particularly in e-mobility. Other areas of application include the energy, electronics, and defense sectors. Together, the partners also aim to pool their development expertise and further advance laser processes using Physical AI. According to the companies, laser surface treatment is gaining importance worldwide because it does not require chemicals or additional operating materials. This reduces operating costs and the carbon footprint while meeting increasingly stringent environmental requirements.
