Häwä Cuts Primary Energy Consumption in Half with a Powder Coating System

Häwa GmbH had already achieved its 2035 CO₂ reduction target by the end of 2025—ten years ahead of schedule. This was made possible, in part, by a new powder coating system.
Instead of the approximately 17% reduction in emissions compared to the base year of 2021 that had been planned for this point in time, Häwa has achieved over 55%, which corresponds to a reduction of approximately 1,600 metric tons of CO₂. Since 2023, the entire production process has also been powered by 100% renewable electricity. This progress was made possible, among other things, by a new, highly efficient powder coating system that has nearly halved primary energy consumption, as well as by the use of local district heating from the neighboring Baur wood processing plant, which saves Häwa approximately 1.3 million kWh of gas annually.
CO₂ Reduction Target Achieved Ten Years Ahead of Schedule
“Ten years ahead of schedule—that’s quite an achievement. It shows that if you approach things consistently, you can go further than you initially think. And our customers benefit directly from this when they need to demonstrate their own carbon footprint,” says Rainer Bühler, Head of Sales at Häwa. From November 24 to 26, 2026, Häwa will be exhibiting at SPS (Smart Production Solutions) in Nuremberg, Hall 3C, Booth 141. In addition to the CO₂ topic, the company will showcase its X-frame cell and a cooling unit solution using natural refrigerants at the booth as practical examples of its sustainability strategy.
