The Chairman of the CDU in Baden-Württemberg, Manuel Hagel, and Dürr CEO Dr. Jochen Weyrauch held talks at Dürr's headquarters in Bietigheim-Bissingen. Among other things, they discussed securing the global leadership position of the German mechanical engineering industry.

Mechanical engineering is an economic flagship and Germany's largest industrial employer with one million employees. In order for the industry to maintain its leading position worldwide, relief and reforms are needed at national and European level. The CDU chairman for Baden-Württemberg, Manuel Hagel, and Dürr CEO Dr. Jochen Weyrauch discussed what is needed in concrete terms at the company's headquarters in Bietigheim-Bissingen on Friday. Dürr CEO Weyrauch emphasized the responsibility of mechanical engineering companies for their own competitiveness, but called for improved framework conditions: "We have the ambition to assert ourselves on the world market through our own efforts. What we expect from Germany and the EU, however, is the creation of framework conditions that do not hinder us in international competition." Specifically, he mentioned the reduction of bureaucracy, investment in infrastructure, lower energy prices, better employment opportunities for skilled workers from abroad and fewer rather than more reporting obligations for companies.

Dürr's commitment to Germany as a business location

The Dürr CEO expressed his commitment to Germany as a business location and referred to the high level of investment that his company is currently making at its subsidiaries Homag and Benz in Baden-Württemberg. At the same time, Weyrauch advocated the sustainable transformation of the economy: "Sustainability is not only part of our responsibility, but also an opportunity. Dürr specifically develops energy-efficient machines and systems that help customers achieve climate-friendly production processes. This creates demand for us." He cited Dürr's modern automotive paint shops as an example: "In older car plants, painting accounts for over 40% of energy consumption. This is where our innovation work comes in. We are already building electrified paint shops that require 70% less energy and operate CO2-free."

CDU state leader Manuel Hagel calls for reliable framework conditions

CDU state leader Manuel Hagel said: "Dürr shows us impressively what is possible in Baden-Württemberg with diligence, confidence, innovative strength, courage and a down-to-earth attitude. The company is a real beacon and world market leader and is committed to its social responsibility. I was very impressed by what I saw and experienced on site today." With a view to the weak growth of the German economy, Hagel demanded: "If we want to maintain and increase prosperity, we need to get into gear now to get out of the recession. Above all, we need significantly less self-preoccupation with freedom of information laws, requests for information, liability rules or rights to sue associations and instead more trust in the creative power of people and more courage for entrepreneurial freedom. And we need permanently reliable framework conditions, also so that investing in the country and creating good jobs like Dürr's pays off.
