This year's General Assembly of the CETS - European Committee for Surface Treatment in Solingen, organized by the ZVO, clearly showed how strongly the European regulatory processes are now shaping electroplating and surface technology.

Representatives from Austria, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Sweden, Finland, Germany and Switzerland took part in the CETS General Assembly. The wide range of participants shows the growing importance of coordinated European cooperation, which the ZVO wants to promote and professionalize. It became clear several times during the meeting how difficult it is for some associations to deal with all the important issues at the same time - which is why a joint, well-coordinated representation by CETS has become important.

CETS wants to use an external consultant

As this structural problem affects almost all CETS member associations, the proposal to appoint an external consultant in future to bundle the association's political and technical work, strengthen contact with the European institutions and ensure a continuous presence in Brussels received broad support. By January 2026, a new contribution and financing model should pave the way for the decision to appoint such an external consultant. At the same time, it will be examined whether and how a permanent organizational solution can emerge from this in order to make the work of CETS more professional in the long term and to ensure that electroplating and surface technology is continuously heard in Europe.
