Brillux informs about powder coating for defense technology

Brillux Industrielack provided information on powder coating solutions for military technology in Münster. More than 80 selected decision-makers from the technical field of the German Armed Forces, industry and coating services attended the event.
The requirements for surface coatings in the military sector are highly specialized. In addition to the proven wet paint coatings, powder coating systems are also coming into focus in this area of application due to their outstanding technical performance and economic advantages. What opportunities are opening up with these surface coatings? What can and must corresponding products achieve? What specific experience has already been gained in coating practice and in the switch from wet to powder coating systems? This holistic perspective of the information and discussion event "Powder coating solutions for defense technology" by Brillux Industrielack met with a great response from the high-caliber audience. The participants learned first-hand from the speaker from the Wehrwissenschaftliches Institut für Werk- und Betriebsstoffe (WIWeB) how intensively and with what time horizon the institute tests coating systems with a detailed catalog of requirements - right up to the resistance to explosive ordnance of the entire coating structure. This became tangible in the second presentation. The powder coating system, which was even certified by the WIWeB with regard to its coating properties in accordance with RAL-F9 specifications, is the highly weather-resistant Brillux Premium Polyester Powder 5936. The specially adapted formulation achieves an excellent camouflage effect in the visible and near infrared spectral range. This allows surfaces to be achieved that are camouflaged even against infrared night vision devices.
All four relevant color shades required for military coatings for the German Armed Forces are available in the premium polyester powder 5936 with F9 approval. The participants eagerly followed the applications in which powder coatings can be used with measurable ecological and economic benefits: Their use ensures short process throughput times, minimizes material consumption and leads to permanent VOC reduction to zero. The procedural overview of BAFA export licenses proved to be just as valuable, as powder coatings in F9 quality are classified as military equipment. Practical examples from coating companies that are already successfully processing powder coating systems for Bundeswehr equipment rounded off the lecture program. The lively discussion with the speakers on the podium was not the only thing that made clear how great the need for communication is between the major manufacturers of military equipment, the specialized coating service providers and the developers and producers of pioneering powder coating systems for defence technology. During the breaks, participants took advantage of the rare opportunity for personal exchange and networking. It was the first, but certainly not the last Brillux Expert Forum for decision-makers and coating professionals in this specialized industry.
