When sheet metal with press-fit fasteners is processed during painting or powder coating, it is a particular challenge to ensure thread protection. Bossard Germany provides the appropriate answer to this in its product range with the newly developed PEM PreTect thread cover plugs.

From automotive to HVAC, from railway to e-mobility - in all industries and productions in which sheet metal is processed with press-fit fasteners, a particular challenge arises during painting or powder coating: How do you ensure thread protection during the process, ideally with as little effort as possible? Bossard Germany provides the appropriate answer to this in its product range with the newly developed PEM PreTect thread cover plugs. According to Michael Weber, they "not only ensure optimum, continuous thread protection during painting (KLT coating) or powder coating, but also save manual plugging and reworking of the threads". The Group Leader Clinching Technology at Bosssard Germany underlines the economic advantage: "With PEM PreTect thread covering plugs, labor is reduced and production throughput is increased," resulting in significantly lower total cost of ownership.

Keyword total cost of ownership ("TCO"): The cost reduction is significant, according to the manufacturer. "In the conventional process, the following run up: the price of the press-fit fasteners, processing and manual covering, coating and manual removal of the thread protection, checking the thread run-out with thread mandrel, even manually, re-tapping the thread if necessary and removing the paint flash," says Michal Weber. "In comparison, the process with PEM PreTect thread cover plugs is: process press-in fastener, coat, remove plug .... and done." PEM PreTect thread cover plugs are available for standard self-clinching press-in nuts in a variety of thread sizes (M2.5 to M8) and materials. They come with plugs already attached, can be easily removed by the end user with a fine tool or the included removal tool, and can withstand temperatures up to 250˚C.
