Biconex GmbH has developed a simple electroplating process for the metallic coating of injection-molded parts made of PPS (polyphenylene sulfide). It is used in the production of components for electric vehicles.

The issue of weight reduction is still important for electric vehicles too, and cost savings even more so, of course. Both are possible for components that were previously manufactured from aluminum using the die-casting process and then had to be CNC-machined. The decisive innovation is a simple process for metallic coating of injection-molded parts made of PPS (polyphenylene sulfide) from Biconex, a market leader in the coating of high-temperature plastics with functional metal surfaces.

The electroplating process produces stable coating systems with excellent EM shielding, is naturally chromium(VI)-free and is already available in an automotive-standard production facility. The end product is fully recyclable and the CO2 footprint is only a fraction compared to the aluminum variant. Visitors to SurfaceTechnology Germany 2024 can find out more about the electroplating process from Biconex at stand H16.
