Axalta Coating Systems and Dürr Systems AG have entered into a partnership to offer a digital painting solution. Digital painting, also known as an overspray-free application, combines Axalta's NextJet technology with Dürr's robotic integration.

Digital painting, also known as overspray-free application, is an advanced painting method that enables precise paint application. Under the agreement, Dürr will act as a robotics integrator for Axalta NextJet for automotive OEMs. "Masking-free painting for two-tone finishes and graphics requires good collaboration," says Hadi Awada, President Global Mobility Coatings at Axalta. "Through our partnership with Dürr, we can better serve OEM customers by building on Axalta's paint expertise and Dürr's robotic integration. Together, we are driving the future of digital painting technology." Dr. Lars Friedrich, CEO of Dürr Systems AG, adds: "We are excited to work with Axalta on the next generation of digital painting. As a pioneer in overspray-free application, Dürr understands the requirements OEMs have for customized designs for their vehicles. This partnership will enable us to bring our joint technology to market faster and meet the needs of our customers."

Axalta and Dürr leverage experience in digital painting for cooperation

The cooperation leverages the expertise that Axalta and Dürr have acquired in the field of digital painting in recent years. In 2023, Axalta and Xaar announced their partnership in digital painting, bringing together their unique capabilities to provide solutions to automotive OEMs. Xaar will continue to be an integral part of the digital painting solutions that Axalta and Dürr will offer to the OEM market. Intensive test runs with Axalta NextJet on Dürr robots have already started at Dürr's test center in Bietigheim-Bissingen, Germany. OEMs can contact their Dürr or Axalta representative for more information.
