Atlas Copco: New GHS 402–902 VSD⁺ Screw Vacuum Pump

Atlas Copco is introducing the GHS 402–902 VSD⁺, a new generation of oil-sealed screw vacuum pumps. The series combines high flow rates with demand-driven vacuum generation and is designed for use in plastics processing and other industrial applications, among others.
With the new GHS 402–902 VSD⁺, Atlas Copco is expanding its line of oil-sealed screw vacuum pumps. The systems operate with constant pressure setpoint control, in which the process vacuum is automatically adjusted to the actual flow requirements. Compared to conventional systems, this is designed to reduce energy consumption while enabling faster evacuation. The pumps achieve high pumping speeds across the entire pressure range—from atmospheric pressure to ultimate pressure—and are suitable for applications such as thermoforming processes in the plastics industry.
Demand-Based Vacuum Generation with High Efficiency
The new generation features an advanced oil-sealed screw element, an IE5 high-efficiency motor, and HEX@ connectivity for remote monitoring, diagnostics, and intelligent control functions. A vertically arranged, fully integrated oil-cooled drive system reduces the footprint to less than one square meter and contributes to lower noise emissions. In addition, an optimized oil separator system improves oil retention and reduces emissions. According to Atlas Copco, up to 80 percent of the heat generated by the pump can also be recovered as hot water. Longer maintenance intervals and a design that is approximately 30 percent more compact than the previous generation are expected to further reduce operating costs.
